Palermo
Palermo has a life and vibe to it. Its the largest city in Sicily and screams both chaos and calm, and captivating!
There is so much to see and do in Palermo, don't cut your trip short.
I wander down new streets all the time, not to get lost, but to find something new.
Don't miss...
Markets
There are two prominent markets in Palermo - Ballarò and Capo. The food is sensational at both, so fresh and inviting, its difficult to choose.
I also found the best cannolo at Ballarò, from the store that makes fresh ricotta. Its about 1.5 Euro, and OMG its insanely good. See if you can find it ;-)
Piazza Vigliena / Quattro Canti
In the middle of the shopping district are the four corners of the Piazza Vigliena.
Buskers seem to have performing on rotation, there is always something to watch, and dance to if you feel inspired.
One of my best recollections was a singer belting out Sway (Dean Martin), it was 10am on a Monday and the sun was shining - it was one of those insane pinch me moments.
Oh, in the evenings you can grab a great Aperol Spritz (in a plastic cup!) for 5 Euro while you watch the entertainment. It lends itself to such an amazing atmosphere.
Chiesa del Gesù
Whatever you do in Palermo, do not miss this church.
I have never seen anything so beautiful in my life, and honestly, I was so overwhelmed by it that I started to cry. The church dates back to around the 16th century.
The fresco's, the marble, its all insanely beautiful.
Rooftop dining
Amazing views from one of several rooftop dining restaurants in Palermo.
This one is Le Terrazze Del Sole | Palermo. Check the events page as they sometimes have Swing events, there was one on the night I went here, another pinch me moment!

Other things to note
Accommodation:
- I recommend finding accommodation within walking distance to the city centre or the bus station. The paved streets can be challenging for suitcases so try and stay close.
Finding your way around:
- Google Maps without doubt. The city is very well mapped and bus timetables and stops are integrated so Maps is very helpful, whether that be for driving, walking, cycling or public transport.
Transport:
- I would recommend catching the Prestia e Comandè bus from the airport to the city center. The city centre is easily accessible from the Palermo airport.
- Public transport is frequent and definitely reliable. Make sure to turn up at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Public transport has been safe for me, I have no concerns.
- General bus tickets are bought at self service machines or at kiosks near the station. I haven't bought a ticket on the bus yet.
- Don't forget to validate your ticket on the bus or train. This will ensure you avoid any fines.
