Gorgeous Mt Maunganui and Papamoa

A Late‑March Day That Felt Like Summer

I took a day trip to Mount Maunganui and Papamoa — nothing complicated, just a drive on a sunny late‑March morning. I expected a quiet beach, maybe a few walkers. Instead, it felt like the whole region had collectively decided to pretend it was still summer.

The sky was that perfect Bay of Plenty blue, and the beach was dotted with swimmers, families, surfers, sunbathers — the full summer cast.

It was as beautiful as it always is. The Mount rising in the background, the long sweep of Papamoa Beach, the sparkle on the water. It reminded me how lucky we are in New Zealand — how even a simple day trip can feel like a reset, a reminder to look up and notice what’s right in front of us.

Sometimes the best moments aren’t the big ones. They’re the unexpected sunny days at the end of March, the ones that catch you off guard.
